I've seen a number of articles where people think it's scandalous that Eva herself wasn't nominated, so let me say this: she's
an executive producer of the awards show, and as such plays a role in things like, say, who gets nominated. She took herself
out of running as it would be a conflict of interest.
I'm also not linking to any of the numerous articles that suggest DH is about to end. Three more seasons is a lot more of
DH! The tornado from this past season would roughly be the show's halfway point. So, yes, we're probably in the show's second
half, but the show's not ending anytime soon.
I'm especially rooting for Polly Bergen, who was last nominated 19 years ago, and who won her only Emmy to date fifty
(!) years ago. (Things have changed a lot in fifty years; her Emmy-award winning performance was done live!)
Yes,
I think it's unfortunate that the DH women and the show itself were shut out of Emmy nominations. But I think it's worth remembering
that this is one of the few shows in the comedy category that can be considered a true hit; the DH season finale was pretty
much seen by as many viewers as the season finales of The Office and Ugly Betty combined! In the end, ratings are what matters
most to ABC.
